UAE: TRA Allocates New Frequencies for 5G Networks

On September 15th, 2020, UAERegulator - The TelecommunicationsRegulatory Authority (TRA) announced the allocation of a new frequency band, allowingtelecom operators to expand the application of 5G, in accordance with thedecision made at the World Radio communication Conference 2019 (WRC-19).

The UAE has taken a new step towards comprehensiveimplementation of 5G. Frequencies in the millimeter wave range between 24.25 -27.5 GHz have been allocated for the development of 5G networks.

The band will be allocated in two phases based on theequipment availability by the TRA. The first phase is scheduled to start on the1st September, 2020, during which the 26.5-27.5 GHz frequency band will beallocated to the operators. The second phase willstart in the third quarter of 2021, through which 1 GHz bandwidth (25.5 - 27.5GHz) will be added to operators.
