Mexico Enacts New Requirements to Mobile Equipment

Official Mexican standard NOM-221/2-SCFI-2018 “on Technical specifications of mobile terminal equipment that can use the radio spectrum or be connected to Telecom networks. Part 2. Mobile terminal equipment operating in the bands of 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, 1700 MHz / 2100 MHz and / or 2500 MHz” comes into force on February 10, 2020.

This standard establishes measures to help guarantee that required safety aspects are met for marketed mobile terminal equipment in Mexico and ensure consumer protection therewith.

The standard should be read in conjunction with the Technical Provisions IFT-011-2017 “on Technical specifications of mobile terminal equipment that can use the radio spectrum or be connected to Telecom networks. Part 2. Mobile terminal equipment operating in the bands of 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, 1700 MHz / 2100 MHz and / or 2500 MHz”.

It should is applicable to all mobile terminal equipment that can operate in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, 1700 MHz / 2100 MHz and / or 2500 MHz frequency bands or can be connected to telecommunications networks.

Please note that according to the NOM-221/2-SCFI-2018 the device should meet the requirements of the Technical Provisions IFT-011-2017 to be imported and sold on the Mexican market.

The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFETEL) and The Ministry of Economy in accordance with their respective powers will check the compliance of the equipment with this Official Mexican Standard and carry out market surveillance.

We kindly pay you attention to the fact that this standard is not equivalent (NEQ) with any International Standard. It means that the standard doesn’t have any international analogues.
