2018-11-30

Bundesnetzagentur recently released the final version of 5G auction conditions, which increased coverage requirements and raised expectations for cooperation in domestic roaming for Deutsche Telecom.

Jochen Homann, chairman of Bundesnetzagentur, said that after considering the views of all parties concerned, the original version had been revised to require 98% household coverage along states, all federal highways, trunk roads and major railways by the end of 2022, and the transmission rate should not be less than 100 Mbps. In addition, all operators must install 1000 5G base stations and 500 other types of base stations in designated areas by the end of 2022. By the end of 2024, 5G coverage should extend to harbour cities, major waterways and all other roads and railways in China. The authorities explained that this coverage requirement does not apply to any new entrepreneurs.
