Thailand Through Spectrum Recall Plan
2018-11-19

Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) recently passed a draft regulation on the recall of 5G available spectrum.

According to the draft, regulatory authorities can recall spectrum resources from state-owned operators such as CAT and broadcasting company MCOT, and redistribute them through auction. In addition, the regulatory authorities can also compensate the original holders of the spectrum resources returned.

MCOT currently holds 190MHz spectrum resources in 2600MHz band, which is valid until 2022. It has decided to refund the unused bandwidth of 90MHz for a fee. CAT currently uses 35MHz spectrum in 1500MHz for signal transmission service. It is reported that NBTC will declare the bill effective in December, and plans to recall and auction the spectrum resources of 2600 MHz, 1500 MHz and 2300 MHz.
