Standards On Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries Is Going To Be Mandatory

The transition period of the Australian Instruments ’’Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries) Safety Standard 2020’’ and ‘’Consumer Goods (Products Containing Button/Coin Batteries) Information Standard 2020’’ is going to end.
From June 22, 2022, all products within scope of these Standards must be comply with them.
These two standards apply in relation to consumer goods containing button/coin Batteries, such as remote controls.
These two standards do not apply to:
1. Consumer goods that were first supplied to a consumer before the requirements became mandatory;
2. Professional equipment where all of the following apply:
a. the equipment is intended to be used in trades, professions or industries
b. the equipment is not intended for sale to the general public
c. the equipment is not intended to be used where children are present
3. Audio-visual and information and communications technology equipment containing button/coin batteries that are soldered in place, including personal computers, electronic musical instruments and smartphones.
