Turkey Revises Conformity Assessment Standards for Imported Products

On December 30, 2018, the Turkish Ministry of the Economy published a revised version of the Communiqué on conformity assessment standards for importing. The document appeared in the Official Gazette No. 30641.

The Communiqué entered into force on January 1, 2019. It regulates procedures and principles regarding the supervision of certain products’ compliance with import regulations. In this respect, the Communiqué sets out main rules for importers to follow when importing certain products and regulate the importers’ obligations concerning product safety with regard to human health, safety of life, protection of property, environmental safety, and consumer protection.

This Communiqué applies to such products as child feeding/drinking equipment, childcare products, fire protection systems, plugs, pressure equipment, vehicles and automotive products, water heaters.

At the same time, the Turkish Ministry of the Economy published several Communiqués regarding the safety and supervision of specific imported products. Importers must be aware and comply with the rules under the relevant Communiqué regulating the import of the specific product in Turkey.
