Bhutan BICMA Issues Notification On Shutting Down Of 3G Base Stations

On November 22, 2023, the Bhutan Information Communication and Media Authority (BICMA) issued a public notification that the Bhutan Telecom Limited (BTL) is in the process of shutting down the 3G base stations in its network.
This action is to keep pace with the global mobile standards of better mobile technologies, while the scarce radio frequency resources which were used for 3G services can be refarmed and used for spectral efficient mobile technologies like 4G and 5G and also 6G in future.
