DGFT Of India Revised Import Rules For Goods Under HSN 8471

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India has revised import regulations for laptops, tablets, computers, and servers (HSN 8471). A license is required for their import, except in the following cases from November 1, 2023:
1. One laptop, tablet, computer, or ultra-small computer bought from e-commerce platforms and sent via post or courier can be imported without a license, subject to duties.
2. Up to 20 such items per shipment can be imported without a license for purposes like R&D, testing, repair, etc. However, they must be destroyed or re-exported after use.
3. No license is needed for the returning repaired items from abroad
4. Items, which are crucial for capital goods (production equipment) are also exempt from import licensing.
