NCCS Clarifies Inclusion Of Wi-Fi Access Points As Wi-Fi CPE Under ITSAR In India

The National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS) in India has recently issued a clarification regarding the inclusion of Wi-Fi Access Points (AP) within the scope of Wi-Fi Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) of Indian Telecom Security Assurance Requirement (ITSAR). The clarification affirms that any Wi-Fi product equipped with static or dynamic routing, NATing functionality, or packet filtering functionality is categorized as a Wi-Fi CPE according to the clarification.
Furthermore, it is important to note that starting from July 1, 2023, both Wi-Fi CPEs and IP Routers will be subject to mandatory security testing (ITSAR) under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE). Please also refer to "MRT IA news" dated on March 8, 2023 for more information.
