Singapore CPSO Issue Circular To Specify The Certification Requirement For Multiway Adapters

On 10 February 2023, the Consumer Product Safety Office (CPSO) in Singapore issued Circular CPSO-100223-07. The purpose of this circular is to provide clarification regarding the types of products which are classified as multiway adapters and to specify certification requirements.
Under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations (CPSR), multi-way adapters are defined as adapters which are intended for household use, have more than one set of socket contacts, and which may or may not be of the same type or rating as the plug pin portion.
The CPSO recommends that Registered Suppliers to approach the Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) to test and certify all multi-way adapters, including those with non-square design, to the appropriate Standard(s) stipulated in the CPSR information booklet, and to have the product registered with the Safety Mark prior to supplying them in Singapore.
With effect from 11 Feb 2024, please note that all multi-way adapters, regardless of shape/design, will need to bear a valid Safety Mark before they can be sold in Singapore.
