Spectrum Management Reform in Australia

This year, the Australian government is committed to raising the level of modernization of its spectrum management in the country by creating a single spectrum licensing system.

The Australian government recently announced the results of two spectrum reviews and proposed specific reform measures for ACMA and regulatory agency ACMA. The main topics include: Developing a price mechanism designed to ensure the optimization of the spectrum market to maximize the value of spectrum use; Consolidating tax legislation to support the creation of a single spectrum licensing system. In addition, the government also proposed the establishment of a government spectrum share management approach, and the establishment of advisory committees by the relevant units to regulate the approach.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield said the report helped the government review the past 25 years of spectrum management and major reform goals. A series of reform proposals will be submitted to the parliament this year and conduct industry consultation.
