Chile: Some Electrical Appliances Need to be Certified

In Chile, mandatory security and energy efficiency certification is required before SEC decides which electrical products enter the Chilean market. The products that are included are identified by identifying a two-dimensional code (QR code) on the product to facilitate the consumer and market inspectors to confirm the information.

The products that are currently incorporated into mandatory certification by SEC include sockets, switches, handheld tools, motors, audio-visual equipment, appliances and printers.

According to PE Regulation No. 8 / 8,2016 , started from the end of March 2018, mobile phone charger / adapter also need to apply for SEC certification. The relevant standard is IEC 60950-1:2005-12 + A1 2006-08.

Local agents are required to apply for the certification of Chile, and the testing needs to be carried out by authorized laboratories. According to the selected authentication scheme, the validity of maintaining the certificate is either dependent on regular factory inspection or need to be checked in the importer's warehouse.
