Eswatini ESCCOM Retires 2G and 3G Networks

On June 17, 2025, the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) issued General Notice No. 5/2025, accompanied by a document titled ‘Decision to Retire Legacy Mobile Network Technologies (2G and 3G) in the Kingdom of Eswatini’.

 The document outlines a phased plan to retire legacy mobile networks in the Kingdom of Eswatini:

l   All 2G networks will be officially shut down, effective December 31, 2028.

l   All 3G networks will be officially shut down, effective December 31, 2030.

To facilitate this transition, this includes a ban on the importation and type approval of 2G-only and 3G-only devices by November 30, 2025.
