Sweden Launches 700MHz License Auction
2018-12-07

On December 4, the Swedish telecommunications regulator PTS officially launched the allocation of 700 MHz radio transmission licences.

PTS said it would auction seven technology business neutral licenses involving 60 MHz spectrum resources. Two 10MHz (2*5MHz) licenses and one 20MHz (2*10MHz) license are used for downlink communication, while the other four 5MHz licenses are only used for downlink communication. The first stage of auction is simultaneous multi-round bidding to determine the number of spectrum blocks obtained by each winning bidder, and the second stage will determine the specific location in the band.

It is reported that the minimum starting price of the auction is 50 million kroner per 5 MHz, and the base price of seven licenses totals 600 million kroner. According to PTS, the purchase limit for this bidding is 40MHz, so there will be at least two winners in the end. PTS hopes to limit the auction to 2-10 working days, but it may also extend. Due to the principle of confidentiality, PTS will announce the list of successful bidders after the first stage of the auction.
