UAE Publishes New Requirements for Mobile Phones
The UAE’s Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the new Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) feature requirement applicable to all mobile phones that are being sold in the UAE as well as devices just entering the market. The aim of the requirement is to provide the identification name of the calling party (e.g., personal name, company name) to the called subscriber.
The Technical Specifications published by 3GPP and ETSI, such as ETSI TS 122 081, ETSI TS 122 096 and etc., reflect all the technical and behavioral requirements for mobile phones to be able to present the calling name.
All mobile manufacturers and suppliers in the United Arab Emirates must implement the requirements to have the final approval to introduce and sell such devices within the country. For Type Approval applications for mobile phones moving forward, checks will be made during local testing to ensure these requirements are met.
For devices that are already on the market, registered dealers have already been announced about this new requirement and have to provide the TRA directly with SW update details to ensure the existing devices adhere to the new requirements.
