India TEC Updates Criteria For OFC Models And Certification Criteria For Telecom Equipment
The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) in India has announced two new notifications on April 13 and April 18, 2023. Please find summary of notifications as below.
1. TEC updates criteria for submitting applications for OFC models under MTCTE
TEC has clarified the criteria for submitting applications under family or associated models of optical fiber cables (OFC) for the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE), definition summarized as below.
a. Family models: different models of optical fiber cables for specific types, built around the same cable element but with differences in cable design, may be submitted under a single application on the MTCTE portal.
b. Associated models: models with varying fiber counts but the same cable element and design parameters can be submitted, with the highest fiber count model as the main model and the lower fiber count models as associated models on the MTCTE portal.
2. TEC updates certification criteria for Routers, LAN Switches under MTCTE in India
The new criteria allow temporary certificates to be issued for equipment with special requirements:
a. Operates on single or three phase with current requirement > 32A
OR
b. Operates on 48 V DC with current requirement >100A
ILAC-accredited lab reports for EMI/EMC, safety parameters, SDoC for other technical parameters are required, and such temporary certificates will be valid for two years. Temporary certificate holders must apply for conversion to integrated MTCTE certificates if ITSARs (Indian Telecom Security Assurance Requirements) are notified, which is set for July 1, 2023.
