Brazil Implements Mandatory TAC Codes for Mobile Devices

The Brazilian ANATEL issued an Official Letter 25/2019/ORCN/SOR-ANATEL, which requires all Mobile Device suppliers and manufacturers applying for certification of regulated products to register the TAC (composed by the first 8 digits of IMEI). The document is applicable to all devices with WWAN functions that will use the SMP (Portable Mobile Service), such as Mobile Phones, Tablets, Modules and all other terminal using WWAN.

Registration of the TAC codes of the products must be done in the system database developed by ABR Telecom, called SIGA (Integrated Device Management System).

SIGA purpose is to treat and combat the use of cloned, adulterated or uncertified IMEI in the Mobile Operator networks.

The registration can be done only by the Brazilian Manufacturer or the Local Representative Company in Brazil.
