UK Ofcom Launches 5-year Plan for Fixed Wireless Service Spectrum
The UK regulator Ofcom reviewed the spectrum in use in 2017 and subsequently released a five-year fixed wireless service plan. In response to the arrival of 5G, Ofcom is currently taking steps to support spectrum exemptions in the 57-66 GHz band and to provide unlicensed spectrum in the 66-71 GHz band.
In addition, Ofcom has initiated a consultation to implement the 57-71 GHz spectrum management plan. These include: fixed wireless point lines connected to multiple fixed locations; support for backhaul for mobile networks, distribution of television signals, and provision of fixed wireless broadband services.
