Australia Will Auction 125MHz 5G Spectrum in the 3.6GHz Band in November

According to reports, the 5G auction in Australia will be held in late November 2018. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced details of the upcoming 5G spectrum auction for the 3.6 GHz band.

The auction will drive Australia's 5G process in 2019.

“As a key enabler of the digital economy, the 3.6 GHz spectrum will ensure that Australia will take advantage of 5G. The timely release of 5G compatible spectrum will help to apply 5G to people's livelihood and industrial development as early as possible,” ACMA President Nerida O'Loughlin Said.

“ACMA has designed an auction process that includes the starting price and is designed to maximize efficiency, be competitive, and leverage this 5G spectrum resource,” O’Loughlin said.

The auction will be held in late November 2018, and ACMA will auction the 125MHz spectrum in the 3.6GHz band. The spectrum will be divided into 350 segments allocated to 14 regions in Australia.

The telecommunications company will have to pay an AUD $10,000 application fee to participate in the auction. Spectrum prices in metropolitan areas start at $0.08 per megahertz.

The spectrum auction will have a cap on holding. The upper limit of each bidder in urban areas is 60MHz, and the upper limit for rural areas is 80MHz.
