Implementation of Cellphone Broadcast Service (CBS) Requirements for Mobile Cellular Terminals

On 1st February 2018, Peru Regulator Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones (MTC) published Resolution nº 049-2018 mtc/01.03, implementing requirements for CBS (Cellphone Broadcast Service). These requirements enable users of mobile cellular terminals to receive warning messages concerning possible natural disasters in the country.

PCS understands that this requirement applies to smart phones only, and that there is no impact to already Approved devices.

Resolution nº 049-2018 mtc/01.03 does not reference any changes to the Type Approval process manufacturers must follow in Peru. However, in order to obtain Type Approval for a cellular terminal, manufacturers should now add additional information on the technical sheet or user manual, indicating how to activate the CBS function and program, and also the channels assigned as per paragraph III - Parámetros de configuración para los terminales móviles que utilicen la funcionalidad cell broadcast.
