Auction of 5G Licences in Romania in 2018
For fiscal revenue, the Romanian government plans to auction 5G telecoms licenses in 2018.
The second largest telecom operator in Romania, Vodafone, launched the 4.5G mobile network in October. In theory, subscribers will be able to access the Internet at 800 megabytes per second.
Catalin Buliga, technical director of Vodafone Romania, said that this is the first time a Romanian mobile network will provide gigabit commercial network speeds and will build a bridge from 4G to 5G.
In September 2012, the Romanian government auctioned the 4G telecommunications license with a total auction revenue of 682 million euros. The licenses of Orange, Vodafone, Romania Telecom, RCS & RDS and 2K Telecom won 4G licenses.
According to experts from Romania Telecom, 5G technology has 10 times the network speed of 4G and will be commercialized from 2020, which will be at least 10 years in parallel with 4G technology.
