Australia Allocates 3.6GHz Spectrum for 5G
According to foreign media reports, ACMA, Australia's telecommunications regulator, announced plans to redistribute the spectrum of the 3.6GHz band for 5G deployments.
The regulator also plans to release more spectrum for modernized heavy duty mobile services by turning 2G off.
To meet these goals, the regulator is following a new five-year spectrum roadmap.
Its outlook includes details of the spectrum allocation plan, the possible auction options and the proposed approach to advancing the annual spectrum work program.
"The 3.6GHz band is internationally recognized as a pioneer band for 5G mobile broadband and we want to make sure that Australia is well positioned to realize the benefits of 5G," said ACMA Chairman Nerida O'Loughlin.
"Nowadays, the 2G service has been or is being shut down and ACMA is also keen on resurfacing the 900MHz band and optimizing the functionality of the newer generation of mobile broadband services such as 4G, and we also intend to make the additional 850MHz spectrum already planned for reallocation to mobile broadband available.
