Malaysia Auction 700MHz Spectrum in 2018

The Malaysia Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recently announced plans to hold a 700MHz spectrum auction next year.

The official said it would auction off the 700MHz spectrum of eight sets of 2*5MHz in the "beauty contest" model, in a bid to allocate the spectrum to the winning bidder in 2019.

It is reported that applicants to participate in the auction must pay 10 million ringgit (about 2 million 360 thousand U.S. dollars) as a deposit, and can only bid for four groups. If you choose to pay in full, the 700MHz spectrum price 2*5MHz for 2.1554 ringgit each; if you choose 15 stage paid, the price of 4.1712 ringgit.

Although the coverage of the 700MHz spectrum has good hope for the assignment operator in Malaysia for a long time, but the fierce price competition, new entrants and sluggish consumer spending are likely to dampen the enthusiasm of enterprises to participate in the auction.
