Italy Telecom Push 5G Network in 2020
Italy Telecom's mobile company (TIM) said it hopes to be able to launch its first live 5G network in a major city in Italy in 2020.
Italia Telecom has been actively promoting the development of 5G in recent years. The company recently set up a millimeter-wave (mmWave) band laboratory for research on millimeter-wave in the 5G network applications, mainly to assess the performance of 6GHz to 100GHz band. Italia Telecom is the first telecom operator in Europe to open millimeter-wave laboratories.
In addition, the Italian government also expressed the hope that next year in three cities to carry out 5G test. The Italian government also said it expects to implement the EU guidelines, will release the dream of many companies 700MHz band. These frequencies are currently used for digital terrestrial television broadcasting, but these services will be migrated to allow mobile operators to use the frequency band to provide high-speed wireless data services.
The Italian government says it will release the 700MHz spectrum from 2019 and will be completed by 2022.
