Macau's New Radio Communications Law Comes into Effect

On January 1, 2025, Macau Law No. 21/2024, titled the "Regulatory Framework for Radio Communications," officially came into effect.

The goal of this law is to promote the development of radio communications services, improve the efficiency of processing radio communications business applications, and better regulate activities related to radio communications.

The "Regulatory Framework for Radio Communications" replaces the previous Decree-Laws: Decree-Law No. 18/83/M of March 12, Decree-Law No. 48/86/M of November 3, which addressed the "Administrative System of Radio Communications Services," as well as parts of Decree-Law No. 29/94/M of June 14. The new law outlines key provisions, including the regulation of the licensing system for radio communications networks and stations, certification and sales licenses for radio communications equipment, licensing for radio operators, the establishment of a penalty system for violations, and adjustments to fines for certain infractions.
