Mexico IFT Publishes New Technical Provision IFT-017-2023 for Wi-Fi 5GHz
The Plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has published a new Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023 for Wi-Fi 5GHz.
The primary objective of this new Technical Provision is to establish technical specifications and test procedures for WLAN and/or radiocommunication devices that use digital modulation techniques operating in the following frequency ranges:
Frequency Bands Classified as Free Spectrum |
|||||
5150-5250 MHz |
5250-5350 MHz |
5470-5600 MHz |
5650-5725 MHz |
5725-5850 MHz |
5925-6425 MHz |
The provision will take effect on November 7, 2025. It is important to note that for the 5725-5850 MHz band, the specification and test method for digital modulation equipment and digital modulation parts of hybrid equipment, which are currently regulated by existing IFT-008-2015, will be replaced by IFT-017-2023 once it comes into force. The hopping modulation portion will continue to comply with IFT-008-2015.
For applications submitted to IFT before the enforcement of the Provision, the approval process will follow the homologation procedures of Type B or Type C. Certificates issued before November 7, 2025, in compliance with IFT-008-2015, will remain valid until their expiration date.
