Mexico IFT Expected Delays in Certification Process
In early 2025, Mexico published a draft regulation for a new agency, the Agencia de Transformación Digital y Telecomunicaciones (ATDT), aimed at restructuring the telecommunications regulatory framework.
This move comes alongside budget cuts at the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFETEL), which have led to staff reductions. As a result, delays have impacted the type approval process while the remaining team manages the transition until ATDT take over homologation responsibilities.
Due to the delays, TYPE A certificates may take up to 8 weeks, while TYPE B and C certificates could require 12 to 14 weeks depending on the issuance of official notifications.
For the time being, IFETEL remains the acting regulator until new legislation is passed to formally establish the new entity, ATDT.
