Burundi ARCT Issued New Type Approval Regulation

On May 22, 2025, the Agence de Régulation et de Contrôle des Télécommunications (ARCT) of Burundi officially published the new Type Approval Regulation on its website, in accordance with Decree No. 580/01, enacted on April 17, 2025. This regulation aims to standardize the type approval and management procedures for radio equipment and terminals connected to public networks, strengthening oversight to curb the importation of counterfeit devices and effectively safeguard end-user rights.

Key amendments under the new regulations include:

1.    Applicant Eligibility Restrictions: Entities applying for type approval certificates must first submit detailed company documentation to obtain authorization from ARCT.

2.    Import Labeling Requirements: Certified equipment must bear ARCT-approved labels upon import, which must also be verified and confirmed by the Bureau of Standards and Revenue.
