Malaysia SIRIM Issued Certification Requirements for LMR Equipment
On September 4, 2025, the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) issued announcement SQASI/CMCS/1/25/0005, to provide supplementary clarification on the revised Technical Code MCMC MTSFB TC T012:2025 — “Land Mobile Radio Equipment – Specification (Second Edition)”, previously released by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Under the newly revised technical code, changes have been made to the allowable frequency range for UHF LMR (conventional two-way radio) equipment, which is now set at 400–450 MHz, as well as to the channel spacing allocation for both UHF and VHF LMR. A six (6) month grace period is granted by MCMC from the registration date until the full implementation, but applicants are strongly encouraged to comply with the revised Technical Code during the grace period to ensure smooth transition and continuity of certification. The detailed requirements are as follows:
1) Requirements During the Grace Period (June 26, 2025 – December 26, 2025)
i) New Application: Equipment submitted for certification that complies with the previous version of the Technical Code will be granted a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) with a maximum validity of one (1) year.
ii) Renewal Application: Renewal of CoC under the previous version of the Technical Code will be permitted; however, the validity will be limited to one (1) year.
2) Requirements After the Grace Period (December 27, 2025 onwards)
i) New Application: All new submissions shall fully comply with the revised Technical Code MCMC MTSFB TC T012:2025.
ii) Existing Approval: Existing CoC shall remain valid until their expiry date. Upon renewal, compliance with the revised Technical Code shall be mandatory.
