Australia Plans to Lift 2GHz Band Spectrum Ceiling

The Australian government announced the day before, the current plans to lift the 2GHz band spectrum holdings limit, to encourage all operators involved in the residual spectrum auction.

Australia's Communications Minister, Mitch Fifield, says the spectrum allocation in the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz bands remains unrestricted, but the allocation limits for 1800MHz bands remain unchanged, according to competition regulator ACCC.

ACMA plans to hold a multi band residual spectrum auction in the second half of the year, and decides to complete the allocation of the four bands only through an auction. At the same time, the government has also proposed a reform of the spectrum management system to achieve a simpler and more flexible authorization system through the new legal framework. With the renewal of the system, the price of spectrum has to be re examined.

At present, the relevant draft is under discussion and will be submitted to Parliament for consideration after it is finalized.
