Taiwan Third Round of 4G Spectrum Auction Time Determined

Taiwan National Communications Commission (NCC) announced the day before, the third round of the Taiwan 4G spectrum auction time has been determined. Bidders may submit applications from July 19, 2017 to September 1st. NCC will announce the list of qualified persons on October 18th and start the spectrum auction within one week. The auction is scheduled to end in a month, not later than November.

Since 2014, Taiwan has more than 20 million users of 4GLTE, the competition between the five operators of the enterprise almost unprofitable, but also forced them to pursue more spectrum resources. The auction, NCC will be distributed through two stages of the total spectrum of 150MHz, including 120MHz's 2100MHz band spectrum and 30MHz's 1800MHz band spectrum.

In the first stage, bidders will participate in many rounds of competition, in which the 2100MHz band spectrum limit is 20MHz, and the total spectrum of the two bands shall not exceed 25MHz. In the second stage, the bidder starts bidding according to the spectrum blocks obtained, and the 1800MHz band reserve price is NT $5MHz19 per 5MHz22, and the 2100MHz band reserve price is NT $1 billion per nt. The successful bidder will provide mobile broadband universal services in rural areas, with access speeds guaranteed at 100 megabytes per second.
